No-Cook Nibblers~Brochettes

"Our Flag"
William Predeau

IT FLIES HIGH UP IN THE SKIES
FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE
A BEAUTIFUL SYMBOL OF THIS LAND
OF FREEDOM AND LIBERTY

IT’S FLOWN FOR OVER 200 YEARS
ABOVE THIS WONDEROUS LAND
AND MANY A SOLDIER GAVE HIS LIFE
TO ENSURE IT CONTINUES TO STAND

WHEN FORMER POWS WERE ASKED
WHAT HELPED TO GET THEM THROUGH
MANY SHOWED TATTERED PIECES OF CLOTH
OF THE COLORS RED, WHITE AND BLUE

SO LET US NOT FORGET THE MEN
WHO FORGED THIS LAND WE LOVE
AND THE SYMBOL THEY CREATED
TO FLY THE SKIES ABOVE

REMEMBER TO HONOR THIS BEAUTIUL FLAG
EVERY TIME IT PASSES YOU BY
STAND AND SHOW THE PROPER RESPECT
AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE TO FLY

DID YOU KNOW...?
Sunflowers move throughout the day in response to the movement of the sun from east to west.

GARDEN UPDATE
Planted the new plants I acquired yesterday, dotting the garden with splashes of color. Some went directly into the greenhouse, where they will be able to make it through the harsh winter.

Got to those apricots! Started with two batches today and more tomorrow. One batch of apricot jam and the other of apricot kiwi. Yum!

Also ate my first tomato, a red one that is. So amazing with lots of sea salt!

GARDEN READ~ LETTER IN THE WALLET PART FOUR
While we talked, I pulled out the brown leather case with its red lanyard lacing and showed it to the guard. He looked at it and said, "Hey, I'd know that anywhere. That's Mr. Goldstein's. He's always losing it."

"Who's Mr. Goldstein? " I asked

"He's one of the old-timers on the eighth floor. That's Mike Goldstein's wallet, for sure. He goes out for a walk quite often."

I thanked the guard and ran back to the director's office to tell him what the guard had said. He accompanied me to the eighth floor. I prayed that Mr. Goldstein would be up.

"I think he' s still in the dayroom," the nurse said, "he likes to read at night."

We went to the only room that had lights on, and there was a man reading a book. The director asked him if he had lost his wallet.

Michael Goldstein looked up, felt his back pocket, and then said, "Goodness, it is missing."

The second he saw it, he smiled with relief. "Yes," he said, "that's it.  Must have dropped it this afternoon. I want to give you a reward."
Continues tomorrow...

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0067 NO-COOK NIBBLERS~BROCHETTES
How great is it on these hot, hot days that we can have some no-cook nibblers to have with a salad or just on their own with a tall glass of tea! Brochettes are usually grilled but this is a no-cook recipe, in honor of National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable month.

You Will Need:
Cantaloupe, cut into cubes
Mozzarella Balls (small marble sized)(photo above shows cheese cubes instead)
Salami slices
Kiwi, cut into slices
Cherry tomatoes

Skewer the melon, mozzarella balls and kiwi slices. Then fold salami slices in fourths and skewer. Top pointed end of skewer with cherry tomato!
Patriotic version: Cherry tomato, mozzarella ball and purple grape or blueberry :)
