What Goes On In The Garden When You Aren't Watching

"A Secret Garden"
Linda Wall Hall

If there were a secret garden,
What would it comprise?
Fragrant flowers, a babbling brook, butterflies?
Dragonflies, birds, and bees, there would be all of these.

But most of all, within ‘that place’,
Tranquil peace and serenity await;
Ever there for me and you to relax and renew.
So every morning before you start,
Visit the ‘secret garden’ of your heart.

JUST BLOOMED TODAY

GARDEN UPDATE
Today I was blessed with the sight of two sparrows enjoying each other. They were perched on the edge of the birdbath, bathed in dappled sunlight. Daddy bird reached over and kissed Momma bird; she smiled and ducked her head to take a drink. Once he was satisfied that she had drunk, he took a quick sip and they flew off together, the smell of the lilies wafting in the air.
WHAT GOES ON IN YOUR GARDEN WHEN YOU AREN'T WATCHING

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0016 BROCCOLI SOUP WITH SORREL
Aunt Ruth shares this recipe she got from the old series Victory Garden on PBS. She shares that she has a hard time finding sorrel so she adds a tablespoon of lemon juice. She has also substitutes chopped onion for leeks, and adds a handful of mixed herbs from the garden in a large empty tea bag, and 3 bay leaves.(Be sure to remove before you puree).

Broccoli Soup with Sorrel

You Will Need:
(3) lbs broccoli cut in small pieces
(3) T olive oil
(3/4) cup chopped carrots
(1) cup chopped leeks
(2) tsp minced garlic
(5  1/2) cups chicken broth
(1/2) cup chopped sorrel
zest of 1 lemon
Stir and fry broccoli in 3 T. olive oil  and add 3/4 c. chopped carrots (you can add more), 1 cup of chopped leeks and 2 tsp. minced garlic. Put all in soup pot with 5 ½ cups chicken broth. Add ½ c. chopped sorrel and the zest of 1 lemon. Cook till tender. Cool a bit and then puree in batches.

Aunt Ruth adds: This goes so good with a cheese sandwich on days when we have May gray or June gloom down here on the coast. Enjoy!
