MUSINGS
I'm sitting here in front of a roaring fire, two puppy girls cuddled close and another lil' weiner girl softly snoring in the recliner next to me. It's an icky day outside, or "Marvelous!" as Morticia Addams would say. We had major gale force winds here today, and as I sat listening to 70's classics, the clouds skipped and hopped over each other to fly across the skies.

I have had all my plants covered up all day because just like the frost, it's important to shield your plants from the wind as well. Wind can dry out plants and cause damage to tender leaves or unstable, close to the soil plants.

LOVE-LY PLANTS
We left off yesterday talking about Valentine's Day  (Happy Valentine's Day everybody!) and the language of flowers. Apparently the "L" word was on a lot of gardener's minds as many plants have LOVE in their titles.

Cupid's Dart

There is the LOVE PLANT or CUPID'S DART (Catananche caerulea) which was used by ancient Greeks for love potions. Maybe you've seen LOVE IN WINTER (Pipsissewa) or LOVE ENTANGLE (Sedam Acre). Maybe you've heard of LOVER'S KNOT or LOVE'S TEST, sometimes known as EVERLASTING.

The clematis was once known as the LOVE VINE and snowball (Viburnum opulus sterile) as the LOVE ROSE. The All-American roses for the year 1980 were LOVE, HONOR and CHERISH.

UPCOMING BLOG TEASER
Just a little teaser for y'all...I twisted Aunt Ruth's very competent arm and she agreed to do a segment for the blog on her multi-award winning amaryllis! I'm also hoping she can shed some light on composting for us as well. Look forward to this blog in the very near future!
