DID YOU KNOW...?
L. Frank Baum (1856-1919), author of the Oz book series, spent much of his time between 1904 and 1910 at the Hotel Del Coronado. Baum wrote at least three of the Oz books while staying at the hotel, and some speculate that the hotel's design inspired Emerald City, the fictional capital of the land of Oz.

There's nothing I'd rather do than see your leaf-raking technique. @karentozzi |

GARDEN UPDATE
Switched to afternoon watering and that has worked out better. Soon the weather will be dropping at night and I will have to switch to mornings again...but for now, we're okay.
It was 95F in Riverside today (about an hour's drive from us). It probably made it to the high 80's here.
Made a huge pot of pea soup yesterday, simmered it with the ham ends all day, so yummy. Today I am slowly simmering the pears from our tree which never fully ripened indoors. They turned yellow but stayed hard so I am simmering them down with some apples.

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0103 COCONUT MACAROONS
Is there anything more yummier than warm macaroons? Hubby and I love a favorite place in Lake Arrowhead when they come hot right out of the oven to your tummy!
(14) ounces sweetened shredded coconut
(14) ounces sweetened condensed milk
(1) teaspoon vanilla
(14) ounces sweetened condensed milk
(1) teaspoon vanilla
(2) extra-large egg whites, at room temperature
(1/4) teaspoon kosher salt
(1/4) teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 325F. Combine the coconut, condensed milk, and vanilla in a large bowl. Whip the egg whites and salt on high speed in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment until they make medium-firm peaks. Carefully fold the egg whites into the coconut mixture.
Drop the batter onto sheet pans lined with parchment paper using either an ice cream scoop, or 2 spoons. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown. Cool and serve.
