What's Your Fortune?

His beautiful, light imagination is the wing that on the autumn evening just brushes the dusky window.” - Henry James

TWEET TREATS
bringing you the quirky, funniest and most interesting tweets from Twitter that we came across.
Sorry about your wife's epiglottis. @karentozzi

DID YOU KNOW...?
Scientists are worried how radiation may be affecting humans after a recent finding of mutant butterflies in Japan with abnormal legs, eyes and wings among other things caused by radiation from the Fukushima nuclear accident which was triggered by a major tsunami in March 2011. The tsunami was an effect of an earthquake.
GARDEN UPDATE
It was supposed to break records today, the weather that is. Not sure what it is supposed to be on October 1, but it probably hit 95F today but no humidity, so tolerable.
DOG CONFESSIONS

WHAT'S YOUR FORTUNE?
Many years ago, a woman got a fortune cookie that said, “You got the wrong cookie!” That particular message has cropped a couple of times since then. Americans crack open so many fortune cookies that it keeps the industry busy coming up with sayings, pithy or not, to make us think, laugh, or even cringe. Here are some to enjoy:

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0091 MRS. NITA BUTLER'S AMAZING SCONES

After I accidentally deleted two blogs recently, my friend Mary said, "What are you thinking? You should be backing these up." Boy, was she right! I am currently in the process of doing just that, and have discovered that Feedburner deleted two blogs several months ago. I was able to recreate the important stuff but was clueless as to the rest of it; but little by little I am discovering more stuff, as Aunt Ruth found that Mom's famous scones recipe was one that disappeared. So I am repeating it here for all of you who may have missed it the first time.
You Will Need:
(2) cup flour
(2  1/2) tsp baking powder
(1/4) tsp salt
(1) T sugar
(2) T butter or margarine (no shortening)
(1) cup dates, cut up
(2/3) cup milk

Instructions:
Sift dry ingredients, add sugar. Rub in butter, first with two knives, then with fingertips. Add milk to make a soft dough, kneading slightly. Roll out 1/2 dough 1/2 inch thick. Spread with cut up dates, and then cover with other 1/2 dough. Roll up and then roll out to a square, 1 inch thick. Cut into squares. Brush top with melted butter and bake in 450F oven on a cold tray for 10 minutes.
WHAT IN THE WORLD?
On today in American history, people in gardens everywhere were talking about:
1780 Benedict Arnold accomplice hanged
1919 Woodrow Wilson suffers a stroke
1961 Thurgood Marshall sworn in as the first African-American Supreme Court Justice
1968 On October 2, 1968, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson strikes out 17 Detroit Tigers in the first game of the World Series, breaking Sandy Koufax’s record for the most strikeouts in a Series game.
1971 Rod Stewart earns his first #1 hit with "Maggie May"
1985 Hollywood actor Rock Hudson dies of AIDS
2006 Gunman kills 5 students at Amish school
2012 Massive recall of Trader Joe's peanut butter expands to other store brands
