Seafoam Candy

The Owl And The Wind"

"Oh, did you hear the wind last night

A-blowing right at you?

It sounded just as though it said,

"Oooo-ooo-oooo!"

The wind now has a playmate,

Just as most children do,

He sits up in a tree, and hoots,

"To-whoo, to-whit, to-whoo,"

So when you hear the owl and the wind

Just at the close of day,

They're calling to each other

To come out and to play."

GARDEN UPDATE
Heard from many yesterday that it was HOT. We were spared the extreme hotness, but today felt different from the get-go. It warmed up quickly and I was happy to get the watering done early. Right now, in the early afternoon, it is 95F. Knowing that where we live, the weather can turn on a dime, it is time for me to go pinecone huntin'!
GARDEN GIGGLE
It's Charlie Brown's 62th birthday!

There’s a brunette, a redhead and a blonde are on the run after robbing a shop. They run into a warehouse. The brunette jumps into a bag of dogs, the redhead jumps into a bag of cats and the blonde jumps into a bag of potatoes. The guards kicked the bag of dogs “Woof, woof!” said the brunette. The guards kicked the bag of cats “Meow, meow!”  said the redhead. The guards kicked the bag of potatoes, and the blonde said, “potato, potato!”

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0092 SEAFOAM CANDY
This is a great recipe for holiday gift giving. Easy to make, in the microwave!

You Will Need:
(1) cup dark Caro syrup
(1) cup sugar
(1) T vinegar
(1) T baking soda
candy thermometer

Instructions:
Microwave on high syrup, sugar and vinegar. Microwave until temp reaches 300F (use cover). Remove from microwave...caution bowl will be HOT.

Prepare your baking pan by lining with foil and buttering the foil, or spraying with pam. Position pan on counter. Put bowl next to pan and add the baking soda. This will have to happen quickly, for as soon as you add the baking soda, it will foam up and get hard almost instantly. Immediately pour into baking pan.(Do yourself a favor and put the empty candy bowl in to soak...you will thank me later for that tip!) Let candy harden and then take out of baking pan and break off into chunks. Candy will be golden and have the consistency of styrofoam with a hard candy shell.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?
On today in American history, people in gardens everywhere were talking about:
1789 George Washington proclaims this as the first Thanksgiving Day. It was moved to the fourth Thursday in November by Abraham Lincoln in 1863.
1895 "The Red Badge of Courage" published
1917 War Revenue Act published in US
1961 UAW walks out on Ford
1967 Writer, singer and folk icon Woody Guthrie dies
1990 East and West Germany unite after 45 years
1952 Britain successfully tests the A bomb
1995 O.J. Simpson acquitted
2012 US Embassy Car target of Mexico CIA attack
