JUST BLOOMED TODAY

AWKWARD PHOTO OF THE DAY

TWEET TREATS
bringing you the quirky, funniest and most interesting tweets from Twitter that we came across.
I saw a dog on a motorcycle today. I just don't see how tomorrow can top that.               @Ty_Schutz
DID YOU KNOW...?
August has the most birthdays while February has the least.
GARDEN UPDATE
Cooler for us, which means 100F and overcast. Some annuals are hanging in there, like the petunias and daisies; but the alyssum and sweet peas are starting to get dried from the extreme heat.

Got bit by a wasp again today, just minding my own beeswax watering. At least it was on the finger and not some other place. We use ice right away after you get the stinger out, of course.
GARDEN GIGGLE

A guy walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm. He says, "I'll have a beer. And another one for the road.

A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "You can stay, but don't start anything."

A tomato walks into a bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says, "I'm sorry, we don't serve food here."

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0062 NEW ENGLAND BROWN BREAD
This is one of our favorite side dishes. Moist and dark, with deep flavor, it can zest up a plain meal.

You Will Need:
(1) tablespoon unsalted butter for greasing
(1 1/2) cups brown-bread flour*
(1) teaspoon baking soda
(1/2) teaspoon salt
(1/3) cup dark molasses
(1) cup milk
(1/2) cup dried currants or raisins

(1) quart pudding mold or (1) lb coffee can
(1) deep baking pan
foil and string

*A specialty of New England, brown-bread flour is a mixture of whole wheat, rye and cornmeal or johnnycake meal. It can be purchased already mixed or made by simply combining equal parts of wheat and rye flour and cornmeal.
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Generously grease a 1-quart pudding mold or 1-pound coffee can. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in the molasses and milk. Fold in the currants.
Fill the mold or coffee can with batter. It should come up about two-thirds of the way. Cover the top with foil and tie securely with a string to make it airtight.Place in a deep baking pan and fill the pan with boiling water, to come halfway up the side of the mold. Place in the preheated oven and allow to steam for 2 hours, checking the water level after 1 hour. Add more boiling water if needed. Check by sticking a skewer into the bread; it will come out clean when done. Remove string and foil and allow to cool for 1 hour before unmolding.
