THE ADVENTURES OF TEXTFROMDOG
Bringing you the online adventures of textfromdog by October Jones. You can find him on Facebook. He has discovered that his dog, "Dog", a bulldog, can text him. Each day we will share his texts with you. October's remarks are in green on the right side of the screen, Dog's are on the left.

TWEET TREATS
bringing you the quirky, funniest and most interesting tweets from Twitter that we came across.

Can you guys help me settle a bet? Do you think I'm crazy? I say no, but my vacuum cleaner says yes. -- @TomHanksIsHot

DID YOU KNOW...?
Baby raccoons hide their eyes when scared -- Like young kids who think you can't see them if they do this.

GARDEN UPDATE
We are so enjoying the garden inhabitants we have. A new hummingbird family has moved into the big apple tree and have been having daily interactions with us. So delicate, the female a soft brown, the male a fluorescent green with a throat that looks as though it was made of raspberry colored foil. They hover so delicately but my favorite time is when they stop and rest quietly, which has to be hard for them as their heartbeat runs high (one blue-throated hummer was clocked at 1260 beats a minute!) Their sweet little faces so curious and the look of ecstasy on their faces as they jump with abandon into a deep flower.
VIRTUAL ROAD TRIP~RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN, CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA
This wonderful botanical garden that we will visit virtually today was originally opened in 1927 with the intention of preserving local plants.

It sits on 86 acres, just 32 miles east of downtown Los Angeles nestled in the sleepy little town of Claremont.

There are many revolving exhibits available, Currently they are featuring David Rogers and his BIG BUGS exhibit, which is designed to "skew scale and create an environment that shrinks visitors and enlarges common creatures to uncommon proportions." Through July 29th, you can view a 1,200-pound, 18-foot long praying mantis, three 725-pound, 25-foot long ants and a spider on a web that spans a 12-foot expanse between beautiful California native oaks! Sculptures are created using combinations of trees found standing or fallen, cut green saplings selectively harvested from the willow family, dry branches and other forest materials. The inherent uniqueness of these materials—different shapes, colors and textures—provide character, definition and a sense of motion.

There is also a 24' by 36' Butterfly Pavilion, also running through July 29th. In fact, if you happen to be local, July 29th is a wonderful day to go because in addition to the regular admission fee ($8 Adults$6 Seniors (65+)$6 Students w/ valid ID$4 children aged 3-12 No charge for children under 3) there will be free Butterfly Pavilion admission 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Every visitor to the Pavilion will have a chance to help release the butterflies into the Garden. Beginning at 10 a.m., visitors can help escort the butterflies out of the pavilion into the Garden. The Lantz Outdoor Classroom will have activities for families including nature-based art and craft projects and butterfly gardening enthusiasts can learn about creating the habitats that butterflies need to survive.

Besides the wonderful native plantings and bird friendly groupings they also offer fun events, such as the "Things That Go Bump In the Night" event which is planned for October 20 this year. It is an opportunity to listen to all the activity that goes on when the sun sets. You can pack a picnic and bring along a flashlight to watch bats, opossums, owls and insects scurry around the garden at night.

If you would like to visit The Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens, they are located at 1500 N. College Avenue in Claremont. They are opened from 8a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, closed most major holidays.

The Pope has one but doesn't use it.
