Planning Your Garden Part 3
Today is the first day of Spring, finally! Weirdly, it doesn't feel much like it with it snowing all day yesterday. Thinking of my Mom today, it's her birthday! ;)
Unfortunately the 'vile' bees chewed through the caulking and wormed (pardon the pun) their way into the wall. The frustrated ones tried a coup on our sweet honeybees, and for while, boy! were there bees! I went to open the gate for guests and one of the 'vile' bees sat on the gate post, staring at me defiantly, refusing to move. <sigh> So we are on 'bee watch' to make sure the vile ones don't force our sweet honeybees out.
PLANNING YOUR GARDEN PART 3
Armed with all this knowledge, you are finally ready to go get your plants! Many stores will offer plastic sheeting or a large trash bag to put down in your car so dirt and water don't ruin your car's interior.
Also, my personal favorite, is that many stores have a 'bargain' area of plants that are either out of season or bloomed, etc. Knowing your plants helps here, too, as you would not want to buy any annuals past their season, for they will die and not come back. BUT, bulbs, such as tulips, daffodils, etc will be wonderful surprises in your garden next year.
Another resource to look up your plants and their grow needs is here. This link will allow you to look up plants and identify them. A hint? If you have a smartphone or tablet, send the link to it so you can use it right when you're at the store.
Many companies are now putting smart tags on the plants, so you can scan them in with your phone and read all about the plant.
Also, in the Sunset Garden Book that we have mentioned many times previously, there are plants grouped by their needs, for example, shade plants, etc.
Later on we will be exploring how to add to your dream garden with non-plant items, but for now, go get your plants!
