These beautiful flowers are recognized as a symbol of Christmas. Poinsettia Day was pronounced as an Act of Congress. It is in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, who died on December 12, 1851. Poinsett was the first Ambassador to Mexico who brought the plant back to his plantation in the U.S. He grew the plants in his Greenville, S.C plantation and gave them out as gifts to friends.
In Mexican folklore, there is a story of a little poor girl who had nothing to bring to church for Christmas. On her way to church, she picked some plants by the side of the road. GARDEN UPDATE
Getting ready for the cold weather to hit tomorrow and the rest of the week. Snow level is supposed to be down to the 3000 ft level (we are at the 4250 ft level). One weathergirl even said the High Desert was supposed to get 6 inches of snow. Believe that when we see it, but worked hard to put up wood both inside and near the back door in the woodshed. Collected all the pinecones I could find for great firestarters. I probably should make more firestarters tomorrow. Took all the trash in the house out cuz there is not much worse than slogging trash out to the street in the snow.

Turn a seasonal symbol into festive wall art by crafting a Christmas tree out of ball ornaments and wire. Create the tree from sections of crafts wire, then make S-shape ornament holders from smaller sections of wire and hang ornaments on the tree. Add a glittery star to mimic a tree topper.
