GARDEN UPDATE
First day of Daylight Savings Time and getting used to it. Enjoying the bountiful mums and their beauty.
Worked on painting the supports and bench on the front patio. Scraping, sealing and painting. This is some really old wood we are restoring.
ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT FLOWER SHOW 2012
In case you missed it, the Huntington View Garden Club had their annual flower show last weekend at Sherman Gardens in Corona Del Mar, California. This is a professionally judged flower show, with ribbons for awards. There were different divisions, such as Vegetable, Design, Miniature, Horticulture and Theme, which this year was "At The Movies". You can tell a lot of hard work went into the planning, participating and execution of this wonderful show! Congrats to the Huntington View Garden Club on all their hard work! Photos by Paul Butler.

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0110 APPLE BROWN BETTY
This brings back so many lovely memories of playing outside as a child in the cold and coming inside for dinnertime and the whole house nice, warm and cozy and smelling like heaven. Brown Betty is a cobbler-like dessert made from fruit and bread, much like a bread pudding. It was first mentioned in print in 1864 and was a favorite of the Reagans while he was in office.
You Will Need:
(3) whole Apples, Preferably Granny Smith(7) slices Bread
(3/4) cups Regular Salted Butter
(1-1/2) cup Packed Brown Sugar
(3) Tablespoons (to 4 Tablespoons) Water
Instructions:
Peel and thinly slice 3 apples. Slice bread into a small dice, or tear into very small pieces.
Coat a small baking dish or pie plate with butter. Then add 1/3 of the brown sugar, 1/3 of the apple slices, and 1/3 of the breadcrumbs. Repeat these layers twice more, ending with breadcrumbs.
Slice butter and lay slices all over the top of the breadcrumbs. Sprinkle dish with water and a little more brown sugar, and bake in a 375-degree oven, covered in foil, until done – about 45 minutes. Remove foil in last few minutes of baking to brown the top.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Serves 8.
