Grandma Cameron's Pound Cake

"Hot lavender, mints, savory, marjoram;

The marigold, that goes to bed wi' th' sun,

And with him rises weeping; these are flow'rs

Of middle summer, and I think they are given

To men of middle age."

- - Shakespeare, Winter's Tale, iv. 4

GARDEN UPDATE
 The weather is starting to be bearable again. The plants don't look half as stressed, although the annuals are pretty much gone now. We are still hitting the high 90's but with dry heat, much more pleasant.

GARDEN GOODIES~SHARE OUR GARDEN RECIPE #0072 GRANDMA CAMERON'S POUND CAKE
This recipe is from a friend of ours and tastes like a dream. It comes from her Grandma, Livinia "Minnie" Sarah Cameron (1863-1957).

You Will Need:
(1/2) lb butter
(1/2) pint whipping cream (do not whip)
(1) tsp flavoring (vanilla, lemon or almond)
(6) eggs
(3) cups sugar
(3) cups cake flour
**Optional colored sugar for coating pan

Cream softened butter with sugar, then add eggs one at a time. Add flour slowly to butter mixture, beating constantly. Add cream and flavoring. Either grease and flour tube/bundt pan, use PAM or grease and coat with colored sugar ( you can match sugar with holiday or season). Spoon cake batter into pan and place in COLD oven. Set oven for 325F and bake for 1 hour and 25 minutes. Check at one hour and 15 minutes. Cake is done when knife or cake stick returns clean. Cake can be frozen for later use.
