GARDEN UPDATE
Had a lovely visit from our son who is here from France, where he has been living for the past year. From the US he will travel to Malta, where he has a job waiting as an executive chef on a private boat.
A wee bit cooler today, which helped with my finger. It is still swollen and developed little skin irritations, kinda like boils on it. So all my online sources say this can happen in the first 36 hours. We will be starting day four tomorrow so if I could cross my fingers, I would.

FAUNA
On today in American history, people in gardens everywhere were talking about:
1896 Gold Rush starts
1920Cleveland Indians shortstop Ray Chapman is struck in the temple by a ball pitched by Carl Mays of the New York Yankees. He died 12 hours later. This was the first and only death to occur as the result of a pitched ball in major league history.
1948 Babe Ruth dies
1977 Elvis dies
1974 The Ramones play their first public gig
1984 Jurors clear John DeLorean of drug charges
1988 George HW Bush picks Dan Quayle to be his running mate
2012 Thousands line up for right to work in US
