"Harvest"
Ellen Mackay Hutchinson Cortissoz, a 19th century poet
SWEET, sweet, sweet,
Is the wind’s song,
Astir in the rippled wheat
All day long.
It hath the brook’s wild gayety,
The sorrowful cry of the sea.
Oh hush and hear!
Sweet, sweet and clear,
Above the locust’s whirr
And hum of bee
Rises that soft, pathetic harmony.
In the meadow-grass
The innocent white daisies blow,
The dandelion plume doth pass
Vaguely to and fro,—
The unquiet spirit of a flower
That hath too brief an hour.
Now doth a little cloud all white,
Or golden bright,
Drift down the warm, blue sky;
And now on the horizon line,
Where dusky woodlands lie,
A sunny mist doth shine,
Like to a veil before a holy shrine,
Concealing, half-revealing
Things Divine.

THE ADVENTURES OF TEXTFROMDOG
Bringing you the online adventures of textfromdog by October Jones. You can find him on Facebook. He has discovered that his dog, "Dog", a bulldog, can text him. Each day we will share his texts with you. October's remarks are in green on the right side of the screen, Dog's are on the left.
TWEET TREATS
Ancient civilizations burned aster leaves to ward off evil spirits. Today it is common practice to use sage leaves.
GARDEN UPDATE
Lots cooler today which made for quicker watering. Cleaned up all the dead rose leaves so they wouldn't infect the new shoots and use systemic applications on all the roses to fight borers and black spot.
BIOMIMICRY
Stumbled upon this fascinating topic and had to share it with you. We all know that nature is pretty amazing. So why not learn from it?
Biomimicry (from bios, meaning life and mimesis, meaning to imitate) is a new science to study nature's best ideas, then imitate these designs and processes to solve human problems.
The main concept is that nature, naturally imaginative by necessity, has already solved many of the problems Earth is faced with. Animals, plants and microbes are the consummate engineers. They know what works, what is appropriate and what lasts here on this planet. This is the real news of biomimicry-After 3.8 billion years of research and development, failures are fossils and what surrounds us is the secret to survival.
Like some butterflies imitating the monarch butterfly, we humans need to imitate the best adapted organisms in our area. Scientists are learning how to harness energy like a leaf does, grow food like a prairie, build ceramics like an abalone shell, self-medicate like a chimp. create color like a peacock and run a business like a hickory forest.
The path to our best future is the conscious emulation of nature's genius. We will do best in the future if our world functions like the natural world and the more likely humans can endure.
Biomimicry is a new way of viewing and valuing nature. It introduces a new future based on not what we can extract from the natural world, but we can learn from it!

GARDEN GIGGLE
A farmer was milking his cow. He was just starting to get a good rhythm going when a bug flew into the barn and started circling his head. Suddenly, the bug flew into the cow's ear. The farmer didn't think much about it, until the bug squirted out into his bucket. It went in one ear and out the udder.
